Milwaukee’s Channels 18 and 24 are being sold: Reports

Milwaukee television stations WVTV-TV (Channel 18) and MYTV 24 (formerly WCGV-TV) are being sold by Sinclair Broadcast Group, according to news reports.

According to a report by The Desk, a media industry news site, Rincon Broadcasting Group, owned by former Bally Sports Networks executive Todd Parkin, is buying Channels 18 and 24 in Milwaukee as well as KHQA-TV in Quincy, WICS-TV in Springfield and WICD-TV in Danville, all in Illinois; and KTVO-TV in Kirksville, Missouri. According to a story in Springfield’s State Journal-Register, the stations are selling for $29.4 million.

Bally Sports Network, which was rebranded as FanDuel Sports Network after the company emerged from bankruptcy protection last year, is co-owned by Sinclair. Following his tenure at Bally, Parkin joined Think Consulting, an Atlanta-based technology management consulting outfit.

The Federal Communications Commission would have to approve the sale.

Channel 24, technically not a freestanding TV station, shares broadcasting spectrum with Channel 18. Sinclair sold WCGV’s broadcast spectrum as part of an FCC auction in 2017.

Sinclair owns more than 180 stations in 86 markets around the country. In addition to the Milwaukee stations, the company owns WCWF-TV and WLUK-TV in Green Bay and WMSN-TV in Madison.
