The Miss Universe 2023 pageant, held on Saturday, November 18, in El Salvador, crowned Sheynnis Palacios and Nicaragua.

Meanwhile, Australia’s Moraya Wilson finished second, while Thailand’s Anntonia Porsild finished first.

The pageant had 84 contestants vying for the 2022 crown, which was won by American R’Bonney Gabriel last year.

Along with Nicaragua, the top ten contenders for the title of Miss Universe 2023 were Thailand, Peru, Colombia, Nicaragua, the Philippines, El Salvador, Venezuela, Australia, and Spain.

This year’s pageant had mothers, married women, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and a plus-size model among the contenders. Furthermore, Miss Nepal made history as the competition’s first plus-size model.

Many other models made their debuts on the show as well. Erica Robin, 24, is the pageant’s first Miss Pakistan contestant. Robin is a role model who is combating gender bias and inequality in the workplace.

Miss Colombia Camila Avella, 28, who is married and has one child, was the show’s first married contestant.
