Mod Sun now understands that naming a song after the person he was with at the time was a bad idea.
The 36-year-old singer for the Flames played the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles on April 2, 2023, as part of the successful conclusion of his “God Save the Teen” tour.
He had a rough time on the tour, especially since he broke up with his ex-girlfriend Avril Lavigne in the middle of the six-week run.
On February 19, 2023, just two days after he started the tour, a source told E! News and other news outlets that the two had broken off their engagement.
The same day, Mod Sun’s representative told the outlet, “They were together and engaged when he left for a tour three days ago, so if anything has changed, that’s news to him.”
Mod Sun (real name: Derek Smith) addressed a crowd of over a thousand when he revealed that he was changing the title of the song he had written for the 38-year-old Sk8er Boi singer. He changed the name of the song from Avril’s Song to Los Angeles Song.
He said with a laugh, “It’s probably not a good idea to name the song after the person you’re with at the time.”
People Magazine says that after the breakup, he told his fans that they “saved his life.”
Before he started his song “Battle Scars,” he talked about how much his life had changed in the past six weeks and how he had been sober for three years.
Even though the singer and Lavigne broke up, he still sang Flames, the song he was going to sing with Lavigne in 2021. When he heard her backing track over the sound system, he looked like he was about to cry.
The two people who used to be together started dating the following month, and they got engaged in April 2022.
Since the breakup, Lavigne has moved on with rapper Tyga. Just two days before the breakup was announced, they were seen having dinner together at Nobu.
