Morehead State guard Mark Freeman is likely to miss the entire 2023-24 season due to a wrist injury, coach Preston Spradlin told The Messenger’s Jeff Goodman. Freeman was tabbed as the preseason Player of the Year in the Ohio Valley Conference after averaging 15 points and 3.7 assists during the 2022-23 season.

The senior star helped guide Morehead State to a 22-12 record last season, which included a 14-4 showing in OVC play. The Eagles beat Clemson in the opening round of the NIT before a loss to UAB in the following round ended their season.

Freeman started his career at Tennessee State during the 2019-20 season but had a breakout effort the following year with 20 starts and 17.1 points per game. With a stop to Illinois State in between, Freeman ultimately found his footing at Morehead State. In 30 starts, he averaged 35% from beyond the arc. With Freeman now out, guard Drew Thelwell is expected to take on a larger role after appearing in 34 games last season.

Morehead State opens up the season on the road against No. 24 Alabama on Nov. 6.
