The PAL singles and doubles girls’ tennis tournaments got underway Monday and there were no big surprises on Day 1 as most of the top seeds in both brackets advanced to Wednesday’s semifinals.
The one mild upset came in the singles bracket, where Half Moon Bay’s Gracie Anwar knocked off eighth-seeded Camilla Jerng of Woodside. Both won their first-round match — Jerng at love, while Anwar dropped just two games — before meeting in the second round, with Anwar posting a 7-5, 6-2 victory.
