Halloween’s over; daylight saving time is coming to a close; and Mariah Carey’s name is on everyone’s tongue, which means only one thing: the holidays are upon us.
With the holidays, too, comes holiday travel. And an annual survey has revealed what those of you hitting the road — and air — can expect for Thanksgiving and Christmas 2023.
This survey is published every year by The Vacationer, a travel publication whose mission “is to deliver accurate and comprehensive breaking news and guides to help better your travel experiences and vacation planning.”
Researchers at the site sent 2023′s survey out to over 1,000 people across the country aged 18 and over, with a near-even split between men and women taking it.
The results found how people who plan on traveling for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or both rose by about six percent when compared to last year. Over 32 percent of respondents claim they don’t prefer to travel at all for any of the holidays.
As far as mode of travel goes, well, the people who stated they’re going by plane don’t seem to have much faith in the industry: A little over 33 percent said they were “Not Confident at All” in airlines being able to avoid excessive delays or cancellations during the holiday season. Another nearly 26 percent said they were just “A Little Confident.”
“More than 59% of American adults say they have little or no confidence in airlines being able to avoid excessive delays and cancellations this holiday season,” the survey’s report reads. “The 59.23% that said this equates to 154 million people.
“After all the travel issues and meltdowns over the last year, it is understandable that people are not confident this holiday season. On the other hand, nearly 7% of people said they are ‘extremely confident’ airlines can avoid delays and cancellations.”
