Mother & daughter team up for venture in Olde Towne Okotoks

A mother and daughter have teamed up to open a home decor business and a flower shop in Okotoks, just in time for Mother’s Day.

BG’s Design & Decor and Boy O’ Boy Flowers by Nikolle opened on May 3 on McRae Street, in the building that was previously home to Cozy Cottage Interiors.

Nikolle Grainger, owner of Boy O’ Boy Flowers, will continue to offer flowers and plants after moving from Main Street Market & More.

As a child, Nikolle learned the ropes of floral design from her mom, Beth Grainger, who operates BG’s Design & Decor.

“(Beth) had a flower and gift shop in Saskatchewan for 30-plus years, and has moved all of her gifts, and home decor line here,” Nikolle said.

Visitors to the store will find flowers and plants, home decor and creative items throughout, she said.

“We’re both our own businesses, but working together,” Nikolle said. “I think it’s going to be a cool concept.”

The duo will offer in-house designs for things like wreaths that combine floral elements and decor, she said.

The new location represents a major expansion of Nikolle’s floral business.

“The cooler itself is a big, huge walk-in cooler with flowers that are ready to go, and then a big cooler than we can walk in and choose designs together,” Nikolle said.

The store will be open seven days a week and a grand opening is planned for May 25.

During the grand opening, “we’ll celebrate the real opening and welcome customers in much grander style,” Beth said.

Boy O’ Boy Flowers was chosen as the Best Floral Shop in Okotoks in the 2023 Western Wheel Readers’ Choice Awards.
