Annapolis, Md. (January 27, 2024)–The Mount St. Mary’s men’s tennis team opened the Spring season with a 6-1 setback at Navy on Saturday. The Mount’s Victor Mignot provided the point with a three-set win at the No. 5 singles spot in the lineup.
The Midshipmen (4-0) swept the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point and a 1-0 lead. The Mount’s duo of Aaron Thompson and Luke Papayoanou fell 7-5 at No. 3 doubles in the closest match in doubles competition. In singles play, Mignot produced a 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 win over Aaron Gu at No. 5 singles for the Mount’s win. Thompson fell in a hard-fought match at No. 4 singles, falling 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 1-0 (10-3) while Akarsh Gaonkar was also edged in a tough match at No. 2 singles by Steve Nguyen, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-4).
The Mount returns to the court tomorrow at Drexel.
