MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police say a man who found his stolen car at Parkway Village convenience store was attacked by the person driving it.
The victim said he spotted the vehicle in the 4500 block of Winchester in Parkway Village and found a work ID belonging to Markelon Brown on the ground next to the vehicle.
The car owner said he recognized Brown from the ID when he exited the store. He said Brown came over to the driver’s side of the SUV he was driving, said the stolen car was his, and began hitting him in the face with a handgun.
The victim said he was able to drive away, but Brown followed him and fired at least one shot at him. His vehicle was not hit.
The victim said his ex-fiance took his car in August, and he saw it at the Winchester store a month later.
Brown was booked in the Shelby County Jail on Monday on charges of aggravated assault and theft of property.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
