Southern Arkansas University men’s and women’s tennis team are in Russellville this weekend competing in the Great American Conference Fall Tournament. The event, which will run through Sunday, is their third and final individual tournament this fall.

The SAU men and women return to Russellville with three flights wins from last year. The SAU women return Tamiya Lintz, who won the Flight 7 title in 2022. The men return a champion in sophomore Adrian Gheorge who won Flight 4 singles and Flight 2 doubles last fall.

In their first fall tournament, sixth year head coach Greg Owen saw both of his teams capture flight victories at the Tyler invite. On the women’s side, SAU was able to capture one flight title with Lintz winning at Flight 3. On the men’s side, Gabriel Breitenmoser and Gheorge won Flight 2 Doubles while Gheorge finished as runner-up in Flight 3 singles action.

At the ITA Regional Tournament, the SAU women won seven singles matches and three doubles matches with Annika Berrendorf and Greta Wallin making it through the quarterfinals in doubles. The SAU men claimed ten singles matches and ten doubles matches. Senior Tim Fischer made it to the quarterfinals, losing to Nebraska Kearny’s Kulish Maksym in a highly contested match. Matthew Tennant and Fischer won the men’s consolation title in doubles after knocking out teammates Ole Valkyser and Pierre Copin in the final.

The SAU women will face Harding, Arkansas Tech, Southeastern Oklahoma, Henderson State, and Ouachita Baptist. The men are set to compete against Harding, Southeastern Oklahoma, and Ouachita Baptist.

The men will compete at Russellville High School, while the women will play at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex on the campus of Arkansas Tech. There are four singles and two doubles flights on the men’s side. On the women’s side, there are eight singles flights and four doubles flights.
