MUSIC
ST. PADDY: On March 14, the City of Covington will host a St. Patrick’s Day Concert and family-friendly Thursday night party at the city’s trailhead with green beer, food truck eats, games and the music of Four Unplugged, a six-piece party band that plays a gumbo of genres guaranteed to get dancers moving. Be sure to bring folding chairs and blankets for seating for the 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. event at 419 N. New Hampshire St.
THE LANDING: Sunset at the Landing concerts resume Mar. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the foot of Columbia Street in Covington. The concert is free and all are encouraged to bring chairs and refreshments. This month’s show features master New Orleans musicians Larry Sieberth and Steve Masakowski, featuring the music of James Black, with Doug Belote, Sasha Masakowski and Martin Masakowski. Please note the change of hours from previous concerts.
JAZZ: The Bayou Jam concert series begins March 22 in Slidell’s Heritage Park with the Fat City Swing Band that specializes in jazz. The family-friendly concert from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. will be lively and free. Two more Bayou Jam concerts are scheduled in April.
DANCE: The Mandeville Live! spring concert series returns to the city’s trailhead on March 22 when Corey Ledet & his Zydeco Band take the stage for a high-energy show. Concertgoers should bring chairs or blankets for seat at the trailhead for this kickoff show. The free 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. community concerts will continue weekly through May 10.
JAZZ: The Fontainebleau High School Jazz Band will perform Big Band Sounds and Jazz, under the direction of Lee Hicks, on March 19 during the next Young At Heart Adults 55+ event at First Baptist Church in Covington. THEATER
WHERE’S THE BUTLER?: “Murder at Weatherfield,” a who-done-it that spoofs the style of Agatha Christie, will be presented for mature audiences on Playmakers Theater stage, 19106 Playmakers Road in Covington, over two long weekends, March 15-24. As family members gather at the country estate of Lord Winthrop to learn about the changes in his will, the audience gradually learns about financial problems, marital issues and family secrets. SECRETS: “A Few Good Men,” Aaron Sorkin’s groundbreaking debut, tells the story of a group of military lawyers assigned to defend two Marines in Guantánamo Bay. During the course of the trial, they uncover a high-level conspiracy designed to eliminate weaker soldiers in the name of patriotism. Directed by Laurie Bonura. PHOTOGRAPHY: A new photography invitational exhibit titled “In Sight” has opened in the Christwood Atrium Gallery in Covington featuring the paintings of Louisiana artists Linda Dautreuil, Dennis, Mary Ann Haase, Patrick Lera, Michael Mestayer, Nicholas Pechon and Natasha Sanchez. Reach the gallery on the Christwood complex at 100 Christwood Blvd. (Use Brewster Road entrance.) Open to public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-to 5 p.m.
YOUNG ARTISTS: St. Tammany Parish Library is hosting a student art show through April 6 at the South Slidell Branch, 3901 Pontchartrain Drive. Artwork for the show was done by sophomore, junior and senior Talented Art students at Northshore High School. This show is the first in a series that the Library will host to feature artwork by community groups.
