Since 2016, Owensboro Symphony and Owensboro Health have partnered for “Music on Call” — a program designed to use music to help bring hope and comfort to people who are experiencing challenging circumstances.
That partnership kicked off on Friday at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, where visitors, patients, and staff are greeted by holiday favorites in the main lobby.
“Music On Call was designed to enhance and transform lives and bring hope and comfort to people who are experiencing challenging circumstances,” said Owensboro Symphony CEO Gwyn Payne. “This is being accomplished by placing a musician and small ensembles in many venues throughout the community where children and adults benefit from renewal through the power of live music.”
In addition to performing at OHRH, ensembles will visit Owensboro Health’s Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville and Twin Lakes Medical Center in Leitchfield on December 8.
“We are grateful for this partnership with Owensboro Health which has allowed us the opportunity to connect with and provide comfort to so many,” Payne said. “Two years ago, we expanded our holiday performances to two other Owensboro Health campuses in Muhlenberg and Grayson counties and look forward to performing at those sites again this year.”
Through this community engagement program, partnerships have been established throughout the region with other community organizations, including residential treatment facilities, retirement communities, memory care units, rehabilitation centers, hospitals, family resource centers, detention center, local businesses, and corporations.
“Music On Call brings meaningful, musical experiences into the community,” Payne said. “These programs give the Symphony an opportunity to bring joy to the community beyond the concert hall.”
Visitors are encouraged to check Owensboro Health’s current masking policy before they visit.
