Prayagraj: Naga Sadhus have given a call for environmental conservation and protection from the banks of Sangam at the ongoing Maha Kumbh.
Water woman Shipra Pathak, who took the initiative to rope in Naga seers for the noble cause, said that if we do not wake up now for environmental protection and conservation, then the coming generations will be deprived of the salvation that one gets at Maha Kumbh.
Naga seers have also taken the pledge that every person will plant a sapling every year and protect it. Through this initiative, the saint community will be able to spread the message of environmental protection across the country. Earlier, Naga sadhus from various akharas while camping at Maha Kumbh had taken the pledge to purify the Ganga with worship.
Amriteshwar Mahadev Peethadheeshwar Shri Sahdevanand Giri Ji praised the initiative and said that this is a historic moment when spirituality and environment are coming together. Digambar Shakti Giri said that this initiative will be spread across the country so that it turns into a green and clean land. This unique confluence at the ongoing Maha Kumbh has proved that when religion and environment join together, a new awakening is born, he said.
Seers said that Naga sadhus are not only ascetics, but also the saviours of the nation. Whenever the nation was attacked, Nagas took up the swords to protect it. Now the time has come for them to give the message with trident, damru and sword that exploitation of rivers will not be tolerated, seers said.
