The $7,500 Empowerment Grant will be awarded to one artist, who will also get to show their work at the end of the grant period.

A national arts organization that prides itself on spotlighting underrepresented artists is offering a brand new grant to those artists in Cincinnati and beyond.

Bader+Simon, which is scheduled to open a gallery in Over-the-Rhine in 2025, is offering its first-ever Empowerment Grant. The organization calls it a groundbreaking initiative that will provide a platform for voices often marginalized in the art community. Artists are able to apply for this $7,500 grant from now until March 15. The recipient will be notified April 20.

To apply for the grant, artists should submit the following:

  • A short bio or resume
  • An explanation of how they learned about the grant
  • Artist statement (written or video format, 250-500 words or 3-5 minute video)
  • Statement of intent (500 words max) about the project, development process and the grant’s impact
  • At least five images of work samples or a 2-4 minute video
  • Names and contact information of three references, with one reference providing a written or video recommendation
  • Budget and timeline for fund utilization

Artists can submit their applications here. Bader+Simon will host a virtual informational session on Monday, Feb. 26 at 8 p.m. (EST) to offer guidance and assistance on the application process. More information on the session can be found here.

Funding will commence on May 1. At the end of the grant period, the recipient will also be invited to participate in a show.
