PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — The 25th anniversary tour of “Mamma Mia!” is playing at the Providence Performing Arts Center this week.
The musical is in Providence from Tuesday through Sunday.
The story follows a daughter’s quest to find the father she’s never known on the eve of her wedding.
The musical features timeless hits of ABBA and explores themes of self-discovery, love and friendship.
Amy Weaver, who plays Sophie Sheridan, said she is grateful to be playing this role.
“She’s on a journey of self-discovery she’s looking to find her dad but hoping to find a piece of herself in doing that and I think that’s important,” Weaver said. “I think it’s always good to strive for new dreams and following your dreams is a theme in this show and that’s something that I firmly believe in.”
Grant Reynolds, who is playing Sky, said it was a dream come true to be part of the show.
“It’s amazing this is such a huge show, such a huge legacy to be part of and I’m so grateful that we have the community that we do within our cast and our team,” Reynolds said.
He spoke about how the musical show brings more life to the story for those who may only have watched the movie.
“I think that the best thing about it is that we bring so much of our self to it, we bring this new flavor into it that it’s an addition to what it is already,” he said. “I feel like it’s really cool to be part of that.”
