Navratri has begun, and apart from indulging in retail therapy and brushing up on your garba skills, you need to ensure you look radiant and ready every night. Whether you choose to go all glam or minimalistic, it’s essential that you take extra care of your skin. Check out these expert-approved tips:
‘START YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE WELL IN ADVANCE’
A lemon juice and honey face mask helps tighten pores and remove dead skin cells, says influencer Malvi Suthar
Starting skincare early can give your skin a chance to adjust to new products or treatments. Mridul Sharma, a lifestyle influencer-entrepreneur, suggests, “For daytime skincare routine, start with a gentle cleanser, follow up with a lightweight moisturiser and a good SPF sunscreen. The night before, use a clay face mask to detoxify your skin. Alternatively, you can shave your face for a smoother makeup application.” Lifestyle and beauty blogger Malvi Suthar adds, “For oily, acne-prone skin, use oil-free, noncomedogenic products to avoid clogging pores. Also, let your skin breathe by going makeup free for a few days a week.”
‘APPLY A SIMPLE TURMERIC AND HONEY FACE MASK FOR AN INSTANT GLOW’
If you’re someone who doesn’t follow trends and wants to stick to homemade remedies, here’s how to get started. “Use a turmeric face mask to cleanse and brighten up your skin instantly. A lemon juice and honey face mask helps tighten pores and remove dead skin cells,” shares Malvi. Meanwhile, Mridul suggests preparing a turmeric, yoghurt and besan face mask for a natural glow.
While facial skincare is a must, Navratri also takes a toll on your body. “For the body, I love using sugar and coffee for exfoliation. For feet, exfoliate with a sugar scrub, apply a thick moisturiser, and wear socks overnight. Regular manicures and pedicures can also help keep them looking their best during the festive season,” shares Mridul.
HYDRATING FACIALS OR ICING YOUR FACE – TAKE YOUR PICK
Beauty influencer Mridul Sharma suggests icing your face can reduce puffiness
Innovative trends come up every now and then in the skincare industry. From radiofrequency skin tightening facials to skin flooding (layering multiple skincare products onto damp skin to lock in moisture), the constant inflow of new treatments can often get confusing. Elaborating on doable trends, Malvi says, “Go for hydrating facials to replenish your face’s moisture levels. You can also use herbal face packs or Korean sheet masks, which use ingredients like rice water or hyaluronic acid.” Mridul adds, “You can also ice your face. This reduces puffiness, and oiliness. Doing this before applying makeup will help your makeup look flawless.”
Your skincare checklist:
- Double cleanse every night – first with an oilbased product, followed by a water-based cleanser
- Use toners to soothe your skin and maintain its pH balance
- Before applying a new product on face, try it on a skin patch
- Every few days, try skin fasting – allowing your skin to be product free
- Always check for ingredients, suitable skin types, and allergy warnings before buying any product. If you get confused, consult an expert
- For makeup, you can try multi-purposing your products. Use lipstick as a blush, bronzer as an eyeshadow, and mascara as a brow gel. Focus on one feature of the face – accentuate only the eyes or the lips or the skin.
- Use a lightweight moisturiser with good SPF to lock the moisture of your skin and create a protective layer from other impurities.
