Nearly 50 car burglaries reported in North Haven over the past week

NORTH HAVEN, CT (WFSB) – Thieves have broken into about 50 cars in North Haven in the past week, according to police.

Officers are boosting overnight patrols to intercept these crimes.

Eyewitness News spoke with multiple victims who have caught these smash and grabs on video.

Andrew Iovanna’s dash cam shows someone breaking into his truck early Wednesday morning.

“We came outside to glass all over the place and a ransacked truck,” Iovanna said.

The video shows someone going through his front, back seats and middle console.

Iovanna said they got away with a $500 – $600 drone.

“They know the places to look. They looked in a spot I didn’t even know I had. They know what they’re doing this isn’t their first rodeo,” said Iovanna.

Police said State Street was one of the 13 neighborhoods where break ins were reported.

“Just disbelief, you hear about it you see it and you think it’s not going to happen to me but it’s a cold world,” Iovanna said.

Thieves also smashed windows and went through cars on Scrub Oak Road.

Victoria Steele, of North Haven, said it’s the latest in what has been a series of neighborhood vandalism in recent weeks.

“It’s really frustrating, I specifically moved here because this is a safe town. I don’t think there is enough repercussions for what is going on,” said Steele.

In response, North Haven police said they are boosting overnight patrols.

Police said no arrests have been made yet in connection with the break-ins.
