LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – High school students from across Nebraska are in Lincoln getting ready for an all-state music festival at the Lied Center on Saturday.
They are here as members of different ensembles: concert band, orchestra, choir and jazz band.
The festival is hosted by the Nebraska Music Education Association.
Over 2,300 students auditioned, and only 734 were selected to participate.
“In Nebraska, we’re very fortunate to have such skilled and passionate musicians,” said Debbie Martinez, the president-elect of the association.
Martinez said music teachers build community.
“These experiences are just the very tip of the iceberg,” she said. “If you go back to each of these students’ communities, you will see amazing things happening.”
The first pair of concerts features the jazz band and choir at 4:30 p.m., and the second pair features the orchestra and concert band at 7 p.m.
Tickets must be purchased for both times on the Lied Center’s website or at the box office.
