Netflix Casts Oscar Winner Mahershala Ali to Narrate ‘Chimp Empire

Oscar winner Mahershala Ali will narrate Netflix’s forthcoming Chimpanzees natural history series.

Mahershala Ali will lend his voice to Netflix’s upcoming four-part series Chimp Empire.

Moonlight and Green Book earned Ali two Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor.

According to Deadline, James Reed, who won an Oscar for co-directing the Netflix film My Octopus Teacher, will be at the helm of the series. Reed has previously directed the Discovery series Rise of the Warrior Apes.

Scientists and field trackers have spent the last 25 years living in harmony with a tribe in Uganda’s Ngogo Forest, observing how its members have developed a complex political and familial structure through a combination of alliances, trust, care, and a never-ending struggle for power.

The camera crew captures the most dramatic moments in the life of the tribe. Throughout the course of the series, infants will mature, relationships will flourish, and leaders will rise and fall.

On April 19, just in time for Earth Day, the entire series will be accessible online for streaming.
