Netflix’s Alfred Hitchcock Screening Series Comes to LA’s Egyptian Theatre

Los Angeles won’t be left out of the party. As the Paris Theater in New York has been packed with attendees for Netflix‘s ongoing screening series dedicated to the films of Alfred Hitchcock, LA audiences will get the same treat. The “HITCH! The Original Cinema Influencer” summer screening series will also come to The Egyptian Theatre, IndieWire can announce exclusively.

The series kicks off Monday, June 9 and is currently scheduled through Thursday, July 3, but more dates and films from Hitchcock’s oeuvre will be announced at a later date. Tickets for the first batch of showings are on sale now.

Twelve different films on Tuesday were announced to be screened on 35mm film prints, and the announcement of the LA edition of the screening series coincides with these films finally dropping on Netflix on June 1.

In addition to some Hitchcock masterpieces like “Rear Window,” “Strangers on a Train,” and “Vertigo” playing at the Egyptian, the series — which includes virtually all the titles that are part of the Paris Theater lineup — will have some of his early films made in England such as “Sabotage,” “The 39 Steps,” and “The Lady Vanishes,” and it will also include some German expressionist films that inspired Hitchcock, including F.W. Murnau’s “The Last Laugh” and Fritz Lang’s “M.”

The Egyptian has recently some Hitchcock classics, including a February showing of “Rope” on nitrate — always a crackling, potentially explosive viewing experience. And the Egyptian of course is a historic venue that has been around since the days when Hitchcock’s films were premiering for the first time, and was recently purchased and restored by Netflix.

At this point, the screening series doesn’t include any introductions or panel Q&As as hosted by local film critics, as is the case with the New York series in which IndieWire’s own Kate Erbland was tapped to moderate a post-screening panel of “The Birds.” You can see that lineup here.
