Neve Campbell Discloses Her Ambitions for Returning to the ‘Scream’ Franchise

Although the Scream franchise has suffered considerably in recent months, the beloved actor who played Sidney Prescott in five films over a 25-year period isn’t ruling out a return.

Neve Campbell told The Hollywood Reporter on Saturday afternoon at the BAFTA Tea Party in Beverly Hills that she might not reprise the franchise’s major role again for a while. Since Melissa Barrera was dismissed in November for comments she made on social media about the conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Middle East, the second installment, which is currently in production, has been in peril. A few days later, it was revealed that her co-star, Jenna Ortega, had also quit the following film.

A month later, director Christopher Landon announced his departure from the film, citing how his “dream job turned into a nightmare.”

Campbell has undoubtedly seen the headlines. “I know things are spinning at the moment and I would imagine they are spinning at the top trying to figure out what they’re going to do. I would not be surprised to get a call,” she admitted. “But at the same time, I made a strong statement a few years ago, which is I did not believe that the way that I was treated would’ve happened if I had been a male and that I deserve a certain thing for having carried this franchise for as long as I have.”

The iconic musician was referring to his highly reported departure in June 2022 due to a wage disagreement. “Sadly, I won’t be making the next Scream film. As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise,” according to the statement.
