New automotive technology facility being built at a high school in Parke County

ROCKVILLE, Ind. (WTHI) – A technical education program in Parke County will soon get a new home. North Central Parke Schools are building a new automotive technology facility.

It’ll be located at Parke Heritage High School. The program is part of Wabash River Career and Technical Education.

The construction of the new facility excites automotive instructor Edward Kutch. He says students will receive a better education because of the additional working space.

“This program is very popular; Our waiting list was larger than the amount of students we could fit into a classroom,” says Kutch.

Currently, the program operates out of one classroom with an attached shop. Kutch says students work on most things that a dealership would offer.

North Central Parke Schools expects the new automotive facility will open by June. It will feature four bays, providing space for eight cars.

Superintendent Mike Schimpf says the new facility will provide many learning opportunities.

“That’s one of the things we’ve really focused on here. Being able to connect kids with that next opportunity. So if that’s into the workforce—Great—then we want them to be as successful as possible,” says Schimpf.

He adds that some students go on to work in local repair shops. As for Kutch, he says he’s glad his students feel supported in his class.

“There are students in here who aren’t as successful in some of the other classes, but they come in here, and it’s a whole different world,” says Kutch.
