Sandwich Police Chief Kevin Senne shared with community members on Thursday that the department is equipping all officers with body cameras. Senne brought up that the SAFE-T Act requires that all police departments in the state provide officers with body cameras to record their interactions during their shifts.
Senne said the department needed to be in compliance with the state regarding bodycams by January 1, 2025 but started wearing cameras full-time as of March 18th. He said some officers are not used to the new technology but will adjust with time and repetition.

Senne said the cost of the cameras and storage will cost taxpayers approximately $83,000 over the next 5 years, but the department is working on applying for grants to help aleviate some of the initial costs for equipment and training.
