Downtown Missoula is getting a splash of color with a new mural at Worden’s Market, led by Montana artist Madison Perrins.
MISSOULA, Mont. – Downtown Missoula is set to become a little more colorful and vibrant in the near future with a new mural project being worked on at Worden’s Market.
Montana artist Madison Perrins is leading the project, bringing life to the south wall of Worden’s Market with her 1,250-foot mural titled “Alive with the Land.” Perrins, based in Bozeman, shared her excitement about the project, reflecting on her journey. “When I was a young, broke college kid ten years ago, I couldn’t imagine that this is what I would be doing,” she said.
Perrins is originally from Columbus, Montana and is experienced in doing multiple abstract murals prior to this project. She began working on the mural on June 6.
The mural will feature natural Montana landscape and a figure with a wine bottle spilling a night sky of stars. “The design is going to incorporate the beloved Montana landscape, as well as a figure in the landscape with a wine bottle that’s sort of spilling a night sky with stars onto the design. I’m really excited about it,” Perrins explained.
This project is one of two art initiatives funded this year by the Arts and Culture Impact Grant from the Missoula Downtown Foundation. Since 2023, the program has connected Montana artists with local businesses to transform blank walls into masterpieces, potentially attracting more customers.
Matt Muhsam, owner of Worden’s Market, expressed enthusiasm for the project. “We thought this would be a great way to bring people down just for the mural and to see this really beautiful artwork on the side of the building. If people come in and see Worden’s, it’s an experience in itself,” he said.
As The community-funded Impact Grant continues to support new projects, Missoula’s pushes to remain an artistic hub in the Treasure State. Perrins is thrilled to have her work featured in the Garden City. “I’m so touched to be part of it and to add my own color to the walls here,” she stated.
The mural is expected to be completed by June 17 or 18.
