New Home Furnishings Consignment Store In Bucks County

MIDDLETOWN TOWNSHIP, PA – Bucks County’s only furniture consignment store has opened for business in the Summit Square Shopping Center just off the Newtown Bypass.

Owned and operated by Kirk and Sandy Williamson of Newtown Borough, the brand new 2,000 square feet Gilded Home Consignment store specializes in gently-used home furnishings from complete dining rooms and living rooms to decorative pieces, art, lighting and décor.

“We have a little bit of everything – coffee tables, furniture, bookcases, sofas and occasional tables,” said co-owner Sandy Williamson. “But inventory changes quickly so stop by our shop to see what’s ‘in store’!”

Some of its current featured pieces include 10 Waterford Crystal lamps, a century-old sterling silver punch bowl from Bailey Banks and Biddle, a custom-ordered Princeton University shield made by the Swiss Workshop in New Hope, and a framed photograph of golfers Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicholas and a signed flag, perfect for someone’s man cave, they said.

“We have $15 items in the store and we have $2200 items in the store,” said Kirk.

One of the most exciting things about a consignment shop, said Sandy, is that you never know what you’re going to find. “Every time you walk in there are different items,” she said. Some things may be from the early to mid-1900s. Others may be more modern.

“Everyone likes something different. And that’s the beauty of a consignment shop. We have young, we have old, we have middle age. We have all ages coming in,” said Sandy.

“You have to drive 45 to 50 minutes to find anything like we are doing here,” said Kirk. “We’re hoping there’s enough local interest that people will come in as buyers and sellers.

“We’re hoping to get people excited about mid-century furnishings. There’s plenty of life left in these pieces,” said Kirk. “The challenge will be trying to persuade a 30-year-old that this is
great stuff, that you have to appreciate the quality. But it’s our passion so it’s something we enjoy doing.”

The idea of the new store came about two years ago while the couple was beginning the process of downsizing from a larger home in Princeton to a smaller, more contemporary space in Newtown.

As they were trying to find a way to downsize and part ways with a lot of furnishings that were still in great shape but didn’t work stylistically in a more contemporary townhome, they discovered a lack of quality furniture consignment stores in the area.

“I told Sandy, ‘This area just doesn’t have any quality consignment stores. We talked about how there was no good way to get rid of things.”

The couple found themselves taking weekend trips to their second home in Princeton and loading up the car with end tables, lamps, and sometimes larger items to sell at consignment shops down there, which Kirk took notice were doing a good business.

“We were going through the tortures of how to get out of a larger house and how to furnish a new home when I decided to retire from financial service,” said Kirk.

That put the idea of opening a furniture consignment business into overdrive and led to the opening of Gilded Home Consignment, said Kirk.

The couple brings decades of experience to the business, including years of buying and selling home furnishings for their own home.

“We are excited to share our expertise with you and create a new consignment shop for Bucks County,” they said.

“We are curating each item in our store and providing buyers with a clean and vibrant space to find fashionable furniture and home decorations at a great value,” said the Williamson’s.

Gilded Home offers customers an excellent opportunity to purchase high-quality furniture and decorator items at a fraction of the price you’ll find elsewhere, said the Williamson’s.

“We bring classic and contemporary furniture, lighting, wall art, and more to market,” they said. “When buying items at Gilded Home you are assured that the quality, condition, color, and finish of the item will meet your expectations.”

The storefront at Summit Square is packed with inventory displayed in eye-catching vignettes designed by Sandy, who brings her eye for decorating to the new business,

The store is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday to Sunday. The store is closed on Monday and Tuesday. The store is accepting consignments. Interested parties should reach out to the Williamson’s at the store by calling 215-693-2926.
