My order: This recently-opened west side café takes the place of the former Brunchfield Café. The new owners held on to a few of Brunchfield’s favorites, like gumbo, but otherwise offered a more standard breakfast and lunch. The weather was frigid so I ordered a cup of house-made chicken and dumpling soup to warm up. ($2.95) But the Florentine eggs benedict with poached eggs, spinach, and mushrooms on English muffin with Hollandaise sauce and hashbrowns called to me as comfort food. ($11.65) My friend opted for a healthier choice and ordered the Greek Salad consisting of chicken, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, peppers, olives, cucumbers, and boiled egg served with a cup of chicken and dumpling soup ($11.65).
Likes: My friend appreciated the freshness of her salad. I appreciated the attentive service, especially because when we exited the restaurant I neglected to take my to-go box. A quick-acting staff member got to our car just in time to hand me the leftovers. A 4% discount is afforded to those who pay cash.
Dislikes: It’s a little thing, but my friend was disappointed that her Greek salad didn’t come with Greek kalamata olives with their salty, robust flavor. They make a difference in a Greek salad.
What would I order next time? The Triple Berry Crepes filled with raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries ($12.95).
