BLAINE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – If you’re planning any trips this summer across the border with a furry friend, be aware the requirements are changing.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has announced new rules tightening the restrictions on bringing dogs across the border into the U.S.
The new requirements state dogs must be at least 6 months old, have a microchip implant, be vaccinated for rabies and have completed the new CDC Dog Import Form. There are also additional requirements for dogs that have been in countries with high risk of rabies within 6 months of entering the U.S.
The CDC said the changes are meant to protect our country’s communities from rabies, and to stymie illegal importation of puppies.
The rules will go into effect August 1 and more information can be found on the CDC’s website.
