New sports fields open to accommodate growing youth population in Roseville, Granite Bay area


There’s a new place to play in Placer County – built based on a growing youth population in the area.Bayside Church will dedicate three new community athletic fields at its Granite Bay site during a community event on Thursday evening.Bayside leaders said they decided to build the new facility based on newly released population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau showing that Placer County is experiencing population growth of people under 10 years old.“We wanted to build the soccer fields so we have a place for families and communities to come hang out and be a part of what’s going,” said Bayside pastor Michael Metcalf.Metcalf said Bayside has partnered with Granite Bay Football Club to make a plan for the sports fields to become a reality. The site is composed of a championship field and two practice fields where nearly 1,500 competitive and recreational athletes will play regularly.“There’s 450 competitive, almost professional soccer players that’ll be using the field and over a thousand recreational players that’ll be using the field,” said Metcalf. “It’s gonna be a huge hub of activity. We’re super excited about it.”According to the site’s developers, the sports complex features, “A vibrant playing surface made of premium artificial turf, ideal for kids to play year-round regardless of weather conditions. Lights so kids can practice in the evenings – especially during winter months. And a first-class sporting experience with a comfortable seating area for spectators.”The field will be formally dedicated at a ceremony that’s open to the community. The ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Bayside Granite Bay Campus, located at 8191 Sierra College Blvd, Roseville.“It’s been a really really long time in the making… going through all the logistics and the details,” Metcalf said. “But there’s nothing more exciting than right now when we’re here standing on the field ready to celebrate and have an official dedication.”
