Newark police seek public’s help finding woman accused of stealing car with 3-year-old inside


The Newark Police Department is hoping the public can identify the woman accused of stealing a car with a child inside, sparking an Amber Alert.

The incident happened around 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday on the 100 block of Wilson Avenue. Police say the woman carjacked a 2017 silver Hyundai Sonata with a 3-year-old boy inside. An Amber Alert was issued around 9:55 a.m. to get the public’s help finding the boy. Police then found the car with the child inside in Jersey City around 10:30 a.m. The boy was not harmed.

Police initially described the suspect as male, but now say the suspect is female. She is a Black woman last seen wearing a backward ball cap, black North Face jacket, blue jeans and red and white sneakers.
