Newburyport Art presents ‘Journeying Well’


NEWBURYPORT — Newburyport Art (NAA) presents “Journeying Well: Artistic Pathways” from Friday through Dec. 3 and an opening night book launch event, “Collaborators in Conversation: The Making of a Book”.

“Journeying Well: Artistic Pathways” is a 75th anniversary special exhibition sponsored by Newburyport Bank and Mass Cultural Council. “Journeying Well” is on view in the Hills, Sargent, Mural and Hartson galleries.

The book launch event with NAA master artist Ryan Kelley and former NAA Executive Director Elena Ruocco Bachrach will be held in the Sargent Gallery on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a panel discussion beginning at 5:30 p.m.

This is the final installment of Newburyport Art’s 75th anniversary celebration. NAA wishes to thank the Newburyport Bank Charitable Foundation and the Mass Cultural Council for their support of the exhibition and related programming.

Artwork in the exhibit reacts to the theme of artistic and creative process, pathways (literal pathways, metaphorical, symbolic, abstract, process-oriented) and more. This exhibition also features call and response prompts, where artists created artwork based on one of 12 quotes from famous creatives working across the 75 years that Newburyport Art has been active. The Mural Gallery also introduces five of the selected muralists for the next phase of the NBPT Murals Project in 2024.

Opening the exhibition is a special event – “Collaborators in Conversation: The Making of a Book”– that highlights Kelley and is written by Ruocco Bachrach and photographed by Ryan Gregory.

Join the trio on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. to hear about the three-year process leading to the creation of this book.T his show runs concurrently with the fall gift shop. A reception will be held on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m.

The galleries are free and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Newburyport Art is closed on Mondays.
