[News] Samsung to Co-Develop Next-Gen In-Vehicle Semiconductor Technology with Automotive Chipmaker

Samsung Electronics has recently partnered with industry leaders such as Infineon and NXP to jointly develop next-generation automotive semiconductor technology solutions, aiming to meet the increasing demand for high-performance computing chips in future smart vehicles.

As autonomous driving technology rapidly evolves, the demand for computing power in automotive chips is also surging. Leveraging its strengths in memory and processor technologies, Samsung is gradually phasing in advanced process technologies, originally used in mobile devices, into the automotive manufacturing sector.

The collaboration centers on several key areas: the development of automotive-grade processors based on 5nm process technology, optimized co-design of memory and processors, enhanced chip stability under extreme temperature conditions, and improved real-time processing capabilities and security features. Notably, these newly developed chips will support cutting-edge neural processing units (NPUs), making them more efficient in executing autonomous driving algorithms. In addition, Samsung is actively developing more highly integrated system-on-chip (SoC) solutions, attempting to combine multiple functions into a single chip to save space and reduce power consumption.

Market analysts note that Samsung is well-positioned to capture a larger share of the automotive electronics market through close cooperation with its partners. With the growing adoption of electric vehicles and smart connected cars, the in-vehicle chip market is expected to grow at an annual rate of over 15% in the next five years. By collaborating with automotive semiconductor experts, Samsung will be able to offer more comprehensive electronic solutions to vehicle manufacturers.
