The CBS affiliate serving Southern Nevada will serve as the host of Nexstar Media Group‘s own live and syndicated New Year’s Eve program, giving viewers another choice should they not wish to see Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper get inebriated on CNN, don’t care for the Country fare from Nashville, or aren’t keen on Ryan Seacrest in New York’s Times Square.
KLAS-8 in Las Vegas is bringing “Coast-to-Coast Countdown to 2025” to views between 8pm Pacific and 12:30am Pacific across December 31, 2024 and January 1, 2025.
The broadcast will air live across 69 Nexstar-owned and partner television stations, up from 14 stations last year, and will reach viewers in New York (where Mission Broadcasting-owned WPIX-11 is operated by Nexstar through a shared services agreement).
It is also expected to air on KTLA-5 in Los Angeles, and on stations in the Philadelphia, San Francisco, Denver, Tampa-St. Petersburg and Washington, D.C., markets.
“Coast to Coast Countdown to 2025” will also be an hour longer than last year’s broadcast.
The telecast will feature musical performances, special entertainment, and a countdown to midnight across all four time zones in the United States.
“Viewers will be treated to the midnight ball-drop in New York City, a spectacular fireworks and drone show from Reunion Tower in Dallas, fireworks from Denver’s downtown area, and an epic 10-minute firework show launched from the rooftops of nine hotels on the Las Vegas strip,” Nexstar says.
Live musical performances will be seen by the surviving members of The Jacksons; Foreigner (who headlined a CBS New Year’s Eve program originating from Miami some three decades ago); Sheila E.; Rick Springfield; Morris Day; Lisa Lisa; George Thorogood; and Lee Rocker of the Stray Cats.
Nexstar Broadcasting Division President Andy Alford commented, “For almost three decades, the hard-working team at Nexstar has been dedicated to creating an unforgettable New Year’s Eve experience for viewers and party-goers. ‘Coast to Coast Countdown to 2025’ is top-notch entertainment and we are excited to ring in the New Year with almost 50 million U.S. households in more than 60 Nexstar television markets.”
