Well, that was quick.
After several days of bitter partisan politicking by a cable TV services provider over fair compensation for the right to profit from the distribution of free-to-chair TV channels owned by the nation’s biggest ownership group, a new agreement has quietly been reached.
Nexstar Media Group and Altice USA-owned MVPD Optimum announced Saturday morning that a “comprehensive partnership agreement” is now in place — and that all Nexstar programming has been restored to Altice USA’s Optimum TV customers.
“Together, Nexstar and Optimum thank our customers and viewers for their patience as
we partnered on the best deal for them,” the companies said.
Specific terms of the agreement were not released.
While Nexstar did not comment further, Optimum did.
In a separate statement, Optimum said it “values local programming and this deal focused on providing customers with the content they want to watch at the best value.”
Optimum added that it “understands that viewers in New York do not watch the same content or have the same interests as viewers in Texas, Arkansas, or California, and we have been fighting on their behalf to reach fair and reasonable agreements that put them at the center.”
The new deal, as Optimum sees it, “puts customers first and allows them to have more flexibility and optionality when choosing their desired content.”
Furthermore, the Altice USA MVPD said, “At Optimum, we have a clear mission: provide the programming that our customers want at an affordable price and give them choice and flexibility when selecting their desired TV content. We are proud to continue our track record of successfully partnering with programmers who put customers at the center.”
