NFL alumni to talk mental health with Septima P. Clark Academy students at IAAM


NFL alumni and mental health advocates Marcus Smith and Cam Johnson are scheduled to share their perspectives with students from Septima P. Clark Academy Monday.

Held at the International African American Museum (IAAM) Monday morning, the event is aimed at “shedding light on the significant interplay between mental health and resilience.”

After the “fireside chat” with Smith and Johnson, students will get a guided tour of the museum.

The students will also hear from Live Oak Mental Health & Wellness Director of Clinical Operations Melissa Camp, LPC.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, nearly 50% of all lifetime mental illness develop by age 14 and 75% develop by age 24 in South Carolina.

The event was organized by IAAM, HCA Healthcare, Live Oak Mental Health & Wellness, a part of Trident Health, and EVERFI from Blackbaud.
