Northern Ireland designer Jonathan Anderson is causing excitement after his latest animal-themed clutch bag hatched online.

The Magherafelt-native has expanded the JW Anderson bird-themed accessories range with the yellow Canary Clutch.

The creative director and designer, who also heads up luxury brand Loewe, showcased his latest piece on Instagram with the caption reading “Back to work.”

The striking yellow accessory has realistic-looking dark eyes and bright orange feet.

Fans have reacted enthusiastically online with many describing the bag as “cute”.

The post has prompted speculation that the bag will debut at the designer’s upcoming menswear show, scheduled to take place in Milan on January 14.

The launch of the lifelike accessory follows the brand’s viral pigeon minaudière, which has been sported by celebrities from Sam Smith to Carrie Bradshaw.

Priced at £715, it took the internet by storm when it went on the market in summer 2022.

It was hailed as “an ode to the humble city bird” by Belfast fashion expert Cathy Martin.

The item flew off the shelves and quickly sold out online after being displayed as part of the brand’s men’s fall/winter and women’s pre-fall collections.

The eclectic collection was described by Anderson as “glaring, sparkling, saturated and fun”.

The son of former Ulster and Ireland rugby player Willie Anderson said the range was intended to have a progressive outlook.

He said the items explored, “Parties that never were [and] parties that will be”.

A frog clutch has also made an appearance on the runway after it was designed in collaboration with Wellipets last fall.
