NICK STROBEL: Jupiter bright in the fall sky

We’re now in finals week at Bakersfield College and the last evening show of the fall season at the William M. Thomas Planetarium — “Season of Light” — will play this Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Evening shows will resume again in mid-February. See the planetarium’s website at bakersfieldcollege.edu/community/planetarium for more details.

The brilliant “star” you see in the east after sunset is the king planet Jupiter. Technically, it is within the boundaries of Aries but it is actually closer to the head of Cetus and the eastern end of Pisces. The stars of Pisces will probably be too dim to see in Bakersfield but you should be able to see the brighter stars of Aries and Cetus.
