The No. 9 Texas A&M women’s tennis team swept Northwestern 4-0 Saturday at the Mitchell Tennis Center as part of the ITA Kickoff Weekend.
The Aggies earned the doubles point thanks to wins from the team of Mia Kupres/Mary Stoiana and the team of Nicole Khirin/Lucciana Perez. After Northwestern won on court three to tie it up, Khirin/Perez won in a tiebreaker to earn the doubles point.
In singles action, Stoiana and Khirin kept their winning ways going. Daria Smetannikov secured the sweep with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Northwestern’s Kiley Rabjohns.
A&M faces TCU Sunday at noon back at the Mitchell Tennis Center for the last round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend. The winner advances to the ITA National Indoors Championships on Feb. 9-12 at the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle.
