ANDOVER — There were no injuries after a car burst into flames on Interstate 93 on Saturday.

About 1:20 p.m., a vehicle fire was reported on Interstate 93 north in Andover, according to Andover Deputy Fire Chief Albert Deldotto.

The incident occurred about a quarter-mile from Old River Road, said Taylor Zukowski, a witness.

Six minutes later, crews arrived to find the vehicle engulfed in flames and the single occupant safely outside.

The fire was extinguished within 10 minutes and the scene was cleared in 20 minutes.

Deldotto said it appears the fire was caused by a mechanical malfunction.

The highway remained open during the incident.
