Norfolk Southern CEO Visits East Palestine to  “Support ” Communities, Leaves

The CEO of Norfolk Southern made an unexpected visit to East Palestine, Ohio, weeks after a train catastrophe that spewed deadly substances into the community. Alan Shaw informed the reporters on Saturday that he was there to “help the community,” but he provided no other details. Shaw’s visit follows the company’s last week’s withdrawal from a town hall discussion about the environmental catastrophe due to concerns about employee safety. According to the company, “Following discussions with local officials, we have grown increasingly concerned about the physical threat to our employees and community members posed by this event, which is being more and more likely to involve other parties.” When the full scope of the catastrophe’s environmental and health implications becomes clear, Norfolk Southern is under intense criticism from all political corners for it.
