North American Release Date Announced for Johnny Depp’s ‘Jeanne Du Barry’

Fans of Johnny Depp can look forward to seeing Jeanne Du Barry, his first movie in three years. Vertical has bought the rights to distribute the movie in North America.

The French-language movie was shown for the first time at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. This was Depp’s first big-screen role since his defamation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard, which got a lot of attention.

The Jeanne Du Barry did well in its first week in France after its premiere. It made $2.56 million in its first week at the box office. Mawenn wrote and directed the movie, which stars Johnny Depp as King Louis XV of France and Mawenn as Jeanne Vaubernier, a working-class woman who charms the king and becomes his last public mistress.

When Jeanne is brought to the aristocratic world, she causes a scandal and meets resistance. This is the main plot of the story.

Even though the movie got mixed reviews, Depp got an emotional standing ovation when it was shown at Cannes.

During a press conference, Depp praised Mawenn’s brave decision to cast him, a “hillbilly from Kentucky,” in the part of a king. He also said that he was excited to learn his lines in French, even though he was a “hillbilly from Kentucky.”
