A TRAVELLER who lives in their car has unveiled how they keep warm while temperatures outside drop below zero.
In a YouTube video, a popular car-lifer explained how they evade winter dangers using a $60 Amazon gadget.
“Your car is not set up like a house,” YouTuber Allison Sharpe (@travelsnacks) said in the video.
“Its not insulated. You have to think of it like ‘how do I make this car extra padded so the heat stays inside the car.’”
Cars are optimized for air circulation while driving.
The engineering is perfect for constant fresh air flows but sub-optimal for drivers hoping to maintain heat when the motor is not running.

Drivers hoping to sleep in their car during the winter must retrofit vehicles to ward off weather-borne illnesses like hypothermia.
Sharpe said she blasts the heat on its highest setting before hitting the sack.
“I fill the car with as much heat as I possibly can,” Sharpe said.
She also said that she sits in the front row of the car and cranks the heated seats.

Sharpe said several items keep her warm in the back of her car.
She pointed out the Mr. Heater Indoor-Safe Propane Heater, which is currently selling for $58 on Amazon.
“I was a little concerned because of the propane,” Sharpe said when talking about the initial purchase.
But she said drivers can crack a window to make sure the tank doesn’t spill propane gas into the air.
She also said a sub-$2 Window cover, an air mattress, and several layers of blankets help make the back of her car feel like a bedroom.
Most importantly, she said drivers will want to have several layers of blankets above and below themselves.
She said drivers must “cacoon yourself in a ball of heat.”
One of the blankets she pointed out was a heated blanket plugged into a small battery.

“I always just use the high setting,” she said.
“The electric blanket is just for taking the edge off if it gets super cold.”
