NYCC 2024: ‘Ghosts’ cast tease new season’s hijinks

Saturday afternoon, the cast of Ghosts took the Main Stage at NYCC after a screening of an episode to conduct a conversation about an upcoming episode and the current season! Moderated by CBS Mornings’ Tony Dokoupil, series stars Rose McIver, Brandon Scott Jones, Román Zaragoza and Sheila Carrasco led a lively and spirited panel conversation.

The panel screened the second episode of season four, which featured guest star Dean Norris who Rose McIver called “brilliant.” The panel goes on to reveal that she will be directing an upcoming episode, and she jokes that she’ll be wearing “a tragic little beret” while directing. The rest of the cast on stage goes onto praise how brilliant and multitalented she is, even revealing that she’ll be tap dancing in another upcoming episode. She’s doing all this having just had a baby, which she reveals has actually softened her American accent.

Onto the other big piece of news, it was announced that Jay’s parents will be played by Sakina Jaffrey and Bernard White. The two actors will make their appearance in the upcoming Christmas special, which Román Zaragoza spent “all day on set” just to hang out with them.

The panel moves onto discussing what the actors who play the ghosts had to go through to develop their characters, including a trip to the Library of Congress. Carrasco joked that she took some psychedelics to get into character. Zaragoza described his work to represent the Lenape with cultural advisor Joe Baker. Zaragoza learned so much about why “it’s called Wall Street, and it’s called Pearl Street” and one of this show’s strengths is shedding light on that history. The spotlight on Sass continued with a reveal that Carrasco and Zaragoza will have a scene together for the first time.

The cast ended the panel spilling more tea including that there will be a “double possession” this season, elaborating with a “make of that what you will.” Alexander Hamilton will be making an appearance this season with Isaac maybe finally getting one over on his rival.

With three seasons in the record books, Ghosts has enough potential to do any story for its fourth season — and all the spooky hi jinks that entails. I’m excited to see what every ghost gets up to this season, including Isaac “loudest quiet investor” Higgintoot.

Watch the current season and the past three seasons of Ghosts on CBS Thursday nights and on Paramount+ right now.
