Oakland County and National Weather Service promote winter storm readiness

Mild temperatures are in store for this weekend, but Thanksgiving Day will be cold and cloudy.

National Weather Service meteorologists in White Lake predict a high of 28 degrees on Nov. 23. Historically, November temperatures veer between a high of about 48 degrees and a low of 32. This year’s temperatures won’t set any records. The warmest Thanksgiving Day was a 69-degree high in 1931. The coldest turkey day in Southeast Michigan happened when the thermostat dropped to 8 degrees in 1880.

Colder temperatures are coming. Both the NWS and Oakland County’s emergency management office are encouraging residents to be ready for the worst of winter. You can find checklists and tips online at weather.gov/safety/winter or on the county’s emergency management Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/OakGov.EM.

We want to hear from you: How do you prepare for winter, pack a winter safety kit for your car, or keep yourself warm when the cold winds blow?
