The Opp Cultural Arts Center will host a kids’ art camp for students in kindergarten through the fifth grade with instructor Cathy Powell for two weeks later this summer.
The first camp week is scheduled for June 24-26 with a “Fun Farm” theme. The second camp week is scheduled for July 29-31 with an “Experimenting with Art” theme.
“I am super excited to teach both of these in Opp and teach art in a unique way. It includes music, literature, and an emphasis on creativity. Both camps will include information on famous artists and the elements of art,” Powell said.
“Fun Farm” will be using various mediums to create farm-themed art. “Experimenting with Art” will combine the visual arts with science.
Kindergarten through second grade students will attend each week from 10 until 11:30 a.m. and third through fifth grade students will attend from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The cost of the camps is $100 for each week with no refunds issued.
“Parents can sign their child up for both camps or sign their child up for one camp. Parents are welcome to call the center to register their child,” OCAC Gallery Manager Brittney Crapps said.
Powell will also lead three art camps in Andalusia this summer.
“Those are already sold out, but they will have the same themes as the ones in Opp. It will be a busy summer, but I look forward to showcasing the art world with these children,” she said.
