Oklahoma Youth Arts Day celebrates creativity at the Capitol

Students from across Oklahoma gathered at the state capitol Thursday for Youth Arts Day, showcasing their talents in music, theater, art, and dance.

Performances filled the Rotunda, with students dressed in costumes and expressing themselves creatively for the Oklahoma Legislature.

The Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch spoke with Annie Mann from the Oklahoma Music Educators Association (OKMEA), who highlighted the importance of the event. “It has been just fantastic to see students from across the whole state performing today and just experiencing this wonderful building together,” Mann said. “It’s really teaching them about how to appreciate each other and work as a team.”

Mann emphasized the value of arts education, noting, “It is so important to have that well-rounded education and just to give students the opportunity to express themselves.”

The event continues with performances throughout the day, and Mann encouraged participants to speak with their legislators about the importance of arts in schools. “It’s just special for our students to experience this today,” she said, adding that many students had never visited the Capitol before.

For those passionate about the arts, Mann’s message was clear: “Support what we’re doing… even if you’re not a musician or artist yourself, just appreciate how important arts education is for the well-rounded child.”

Students will continue to perform throughout the day, and Mann invited the public to join in the celebration. “We’d love for you to come out and support what we’re doing here today,” she said.
