When musicians first start writing songs they have this vision of someday performing their own music in front of adoring throngs hanging on every word and chord change.

Unfortunately, that’s not the way it happens. In my half-century of playing professionally, I performed at exactly one show (other than record release shows) at which my original music was the centerpiece. Most times you are a human jukebox, playing songs made famous by someone else.
