A traffic crash at a Mira Mesa bus stop left an 18-year-old pedestrian badly hurt Wednesday, authorities said.
The accident took place just before noon at 8350 Mira Mesa Boulevard, near Camino Ruiz, according to the San Diego Police Department.
A 27-year-old man was turning southbound from Camino Ruiz onto eastbound Mira Mesa Blvd in a Fiat Spider when the back of his car lost traction and began fishtailing, which is when the back of a car begins swiveling from side to side, according to SDPD.
The driver collided with a young woman who was walking at the time, then hit the MTS bus stop.
A traffic crash left one person seriously injured and closed part of Mira Mesa Boulevard.
Paramedics took the victim to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla for treatment of serious injuries to her right leg, SDPD said.
SkyRanger 7 overhead showed a damaged white Fiat Spider landed on top of half the side walk on eastbound Mira Mesa Boulevard near an obviously damaged bus stop in front of the Pho Ca Dao Restaurant.
At least six police cars could be seen gathered at the corner of Camino Ruiz and Mira Mesa Boulevard, blocking the eastbound lanes of the boulevard.
The wreck forced a closure of eastbound traffic lanes at the site of the crash, SDPD public-affairs Officer Scott Lockwood said.
Manager at Pho Ca Dao, Javi Dimla, said he heard a loud crash and immediately knew something was wrong.
“I thought he hit into the wall, like the building. We just saw debris fly, just a lot of smoke,” Dimla said of the car crashing into the bus stop.
“The young lady, her leg was over to the side, it was pretty gruesome, she was screaming in pain, it was pretty bad. We all knew we to make sure she was taken care of until emergency responders came,” Dimla said.
