One person dead in high-speed car crash on Highway 111 in Palm Desert early Friday


One person died in a high-speed car crash on Highway 111 in Palm Desert on Friday morning, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

The car crashed into a fence on the 72-100 block of Highway 111 in Palm Desert, near the city’s border with Rancho Mirage, with the incident reported just after 6 a.m. Friday.

Two people were extricated by responding firefighters, with one of them dying at the scene. The other person was transported to a nearby hospital with major injuries.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident.
