Op-ed: The decline of youth mental health in Tuolumne County must be addressed


There’s another celebrity death in the news with speculation that mental health issues were involved. These stories grab headlines and our attention, if only for a short time. However, closer to home, there is growing concern about the status of youth mental health in Tuolumne County. 

A report recently released from the county Public Health Department shows suicide as the leading cause of death for youth ages 10-19 old in the county. Over 50% of Tuolumne County high school juniors experience chronic sadness or hopelessness.
