SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University women’s tennis team have completed their third consecutive sweep of the season in as many games against St. Bonaventure, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at Drumlin’s Country Club. The Orange (3-0) have swept the competition in all three of their contests so far this season.
‘Cuse picked up the first point in doubles thanks to 6-1 wins from pairings Ines Fonte and Emilie Elde at number two doubles and Anastasia Sysoeva and Shiori Ito at the number three doubles spot. Constance Levivier and Miyuka Kimoto rounded out doubles play with a 6-2 victory in the number one slot.
Polina Kozyreva led the charge in singles play, defeating Anastasia Gubanova 6-1, 6-0 in the number one singles spot to secure the first singles point for the Orange. Ito was next to book a ‘Cuse singles point, taking down Kelly Barnes 6-0, 6-0 in the number five singles spot.
Viktoriya Kanapatskaya locked down the match win for Syracuse by obtaining the third singles point, topping Abbie Tyler in the number two spot, 6-1, 6-2. Levivier followed up with a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Kashish Bote in the in number six singles. Fonte got the sixth point for the Orange, knocking off Sienna Smith, 6-2, 6-2. Elde closed out the winning for ‘Cuse with a match versus Isabella Venter that went the distance, 5-7, 6-2, 10-4.
Syracuse returns to Drumlin’s Country Club tomorrow, Sunday, January 28, to square off against in-state rival Cornell. Start time for the match is set for 11 a.m.
